Renter FAQs

Renter Trust & Safety FAQ

Is ShowMojo Legitimate?

Is ShowMojo legit?

Yes — ShowMojo is a legitimate, established software company that has been operating since 2012, serving property managers across the United States and Canada. ShowMojo is not a rental listing site. It’s the scheduling and leasing automation platform that property management companies use to handle tour bookings and prospect communication. When you encounter ShowMojo as a renter, it means the property management company you’re dealing with uses ShowMojo to manage their showing process. The property manager’s company name and contact information are available through the ShowMojo scheduling interface if you want to verify who you’re working with.

Is ShowMojo a scam?

ShowMojo is not a scam. It is a real scheduling platform used by legitimate property management companies to coordinate rental showings. Here’s what a legitimate ShowMojo-powered interaction looks like: you’ll be asked to answer screening questions, verify your identity, and schedule a showing time. What it will never do: a legitimate ShowMojo interaction will never ask you to wire money, send gift cards, or pay rent before a lease is signed. If you’ve received a message asking for any of those things using ShowMojo’s name, that’s a fraudulent listing using ShowMojo’s branding without authorization — not ShowMojo itself. You can report suspected fraud directly to ShowMojo.

Is ShowMojo safe to use?

Yes, ShowMojo is safe to use. The personal information you provide during the showing scheduling process — your name, contact details, and identity verification — is used to coordinate your showing, verify your identity, and protect both you and the property owner. ShowMojo does not sell your personal data. For complete details on what’s collected and how it’s used, you can review ShowMojo’s Privacy Policy.

Why Does ShowMojo Ask for Personal Information?

Why does ShowMojo ask for my credit card to schedule a showing?

ShowMojo uses credit card information for identity verification only — to confirm that the card belongs to the person scheduling the showing, which is one signal used to screen out fraudulent requests for property access. Property managers who use ShowMojo may choose to require credit card verification or not. Your card is not charged, and the information is not retained after verification. This is a fraud prevention measure designed to protect both renters (from fake listings and bad actors) and property owners (from unauthorized access to vacant homes).

Why does ShowMojo ask for my driver’s license?

Some property managers require government-issued ID verification as part of the self-guided tour process. This is a security measure for unaccompanied showings — it creates an accountable record of who accessed the property. Your ID is processed through a secure verification flow and is not retained by ShowMojo beyond what’s needed to complete the verification.

Is it safe to give ShowMojo my personal information?

Yes. Personal information you provide when scheduling a showing through ShowMojo is used for three purposes: to verify your identity, to coordinate the showing logistics, and to communicate pre- and post-showing information with you. ShowMojo does not sell your personal data. You can review ShowMojo’s Privacy Policy for a complete description of what data is collected and how it’s handled.

How the Scheduling Process Works

How do I schedule a showing through ShowMojo?

Scheduling through ShowMojo takes just a few minutes. Find the rental listing on a listing site or the property manager’s website and click the ShowMojo scheduling link (or call the ShowMojo phone number listed). You’ll be asked to answer any screening questions the property manager has set and to provide your contact information. Select an available showing time, complete identity verification if required, and you’ll receive an automated confirmation with all the showing details. The process works the same for both self-guided and accompanied showings, with access instructions provided automatically for self-guided tours.

How do I reschedule or cancel a showing?

You can reschedule or cancel directly through the confirmation link in your ShowMojo email or text — no need to contact the property manager. If you cancel, ShowMojo will prompt you to book a new time so you don’t lose your place in the process. Most showings require some advance notice to reschedule, so check the details in your confirmation message for any timing requirements.

How do I access a home for a self-guided tour?

For self-guided tours, you’ll receive a time-limited access code in your ShowMojo confirmation message (via text or email). When you arrive at your scheduled time, locate the lockbox or smartlock on the door, enter your code on the keypad, and you’re in. For lockbox devices, the code releases a physical key you’ll use to enter the home. For smartlock devices, the code unlocks the door directly. Your code is only valid during your scheduled showing window for security purposes. If you have trouble with access, the contact path will be in your confirmation — reach out to ShowMojo support or the property manager directly.

What should I do if I think a listing using ShowMojo is fraudulent?

If something feels off about a listing that uses ShowMojo, trust your instincts. Red flags include: being asked to wire money, send a gift card payment, or pay rent before you’ve signed a lease and toured the property in person. Legitimate ShowMojo-powered listings will never ask for any of those things. If you believe someone is fraudulently using ShowMojo’s name or platform, stop the interaction and report it to ShowMojo directly — contact information is available at showmojo.com/contact. ShowMojo has fraud detection systems in place and takes fraudulent use of its platform seriously.
